Builders in the Vale of Glamorgan
A Vale-based building firm for extensions, renovations, conversions, new builds and outdoor work, from the coast at Penarth to the villages around Cowbridge.
Our home county
Orange Stone Construction Ltd is based in Llandough, in the eastern Vale, so this is home ground. We take on building work across the county for homeowners, landlords and businesses, from a rebuilt garden wall to a new house.
The Vale is not one kind of place. A seafront villa in Penarth, a stone cottage in a conservation village and a farmhouse in open countryside come under the same council and very different rules. Knowing which apply before the design starts is most of what keeps a project here on time and within budget.

Planning in the Vale of Glamorgan
Planning applications are decided by the Vale of Glamorgan Council. The county has a large number of conservation areas, covering the centres of many of its towns and villages, and a good many listed buildings. In both, changes that would elsewhere need no permission can require consent, and materials are expected to match: stone, slate, lime and timber.
Outside the towns and villages the land is treated as open countryside. Extensions there are expected to remain subordinate to the original house, new dwellings are tightly controlled, and the conversion of a barn or outbuilding is judged on how much of the original building is kept. We establish which of these applies to your property before any design work is paid for.
